Museum of the City of New York Names Stephen Burrows to NYC400
NEW YORK, NY -- The Museum of the City of New York has named Stephen Burrows to a unique list celebrating those who have helped define the City for the past four centuries.
The announcement by the Museum comes as the designer prepares to unveil his 2010 Spring Collection during New York Fashion week, and new deals inked with Michelle Vella's 212 Showroom NYC to represent the SB Collection, and with News, the hot new Westwood Avenue designer boutique in Westwood New Jersey, carrying Burrows' Summer and Fall collections exclusively in the tri state area.
"Stephen was deeply honored to be celebrated on such a diverse and star studded list of names," said Burrows' Managing Director, John Robert Miller. "Especially alongside such luminaries as the former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Estee Lauder, Martin Scorsese, Billie Holiday, Russell Simmons, Spike Lee, Sean Combs, Alvin Ailey, Joseph Papp, Ralph Lauren, the Astors, the Rockefellers, the Roosevelts, as well as the current and a number of former New York City Mayors."
Singling out some of Burrows' accomplishments, including his '70s triumph in France, the Museum writes: "Fashion designer whose Stephen Burrows' World boutique at Henri Bendel and subsequent triumph at the 1973 fashion show in Versailles made him the first African-American designer to achieve international renown. Best known for unstructured designs and innovative use of color."
The NYC400 is the first-ever list of New York City's ultimate movers and shakers since the City's founding -- from politics, the arts, business, sports, science, and entertainment. It commemorates the epic voyage of Henry Hudson which culminated in New York Harbor 400 years ago.
About Stephen Burrows Recognized by the American Fashion Industry with a star on New York City's Fashion Walk of Fame, Stephen Burrows distinguished career in fashion also includes three American Fashion Critics' Coty Awards and a Board of Director's Special Tribute Award from the CFDA in recognition of his distinctive artistry and achievements as a fashion designer.
